Don t jerk too hard or you may rip the carpet and have to start over.

One way to do this is to lift the carpet away from the floor as you cut.
Keep both hands on the knife to avoid cutting a free hand.
Pull up a few feet of carpet and fold it over.
Roll or fold the strip secure with duct tape and remove it from the room.
Grab one corner of the carpet and pull it up from the floor.
When you ve selected your starting point grip onto the carpet with your pliers and tug upward firmly.
Use pliers to grab the carpet and pull it away from the subfloor.
If the pliers aren t cutting it you can also use a small crow bar to pry it back.
Remember to cut the carpet into small manageable strips as you go and place them to the side for proper disposal.
Carpet can be thrown into the garbage with other household waste.
If you reveal a carpet padding beneath keep it in place for now we ll tackle that later on.
Using both hands pull the carpet from the vertical riser until the carpet is completely removed.
Continue pulling until you ve separated the carpet entirely from one wall.
Once you get a good chunk of it up you can use your hands to start pulling backward.
If you are trying to salvage the floor underneath make sure you do not cut grooves in the floor with the knife.
Removing carpet isn t as simple as ripping it up and throwing it out.
